  • Play your audio off a cheap 1987 cassette deck — the budget consumer / boombox sound
  • Cheap: boxy mid-forward band — lows AND highs roll toward the middle, plus HF breathing (noise-reduction mistracking)
  • Wobble: one-sided pitch droop + erratic cheap-motor jitter (sags, never oscillates evenly)
  • Noise: tape hiss + 50 Hz mains hum with harmonics, entering at the playback amp
  • Built on the shared vmtape defect core; zero latency, no look-ahead

Requirements

  • macOS 13 Ventura or later
  • Apple Silicon (arm64) — Intel / Windows coming later
  • ✅ Standalone app (CASSETTE.app) — A minor chord test tone
  • ✅ AU (Audio Unit v3) — GarageBand, Logic Pro, REAPER, Ableton Live

  • AU → ~/Applications (open CASSETTE.app once to register)
