  • The DJ move — hit the brake and the record winds down, or backspin it in reverse
  • BRAKE: hold to wind the platter down (release returns to 1×); an automatable param in the plugin
  • MODE: Brake (speed 1 → 0, fade to silence at the halt) · Backspin (speed 1 → reverse, the record pulled back)
  • TIME: platter inertia, 50 ms hard cut → 3 s slow coast (turntables stop quicker than a tape reel)
  • VINYL: rumble + crackle that swells as the platter slows — the needle on a stopping record
  • Built on vmtape’s vm_transport (4th-order Lagrange variable-speed read, supports reverse) + vm_noise; bit-exact dry at rest, no latency creep

  • macOS 13 Ventura or later
  • Apple Silicon (arm64) — Intel / Windows coming later
  • ✅ Standalone app (BRAKE.app) — A minor chord test tone
  • ✅ AU (Audio Unit v3) — GarageBand, Logic Pro, REAPER, Ableton Live

  • AU → ~/Applications (open BRAKE.app once to register)
